Bicycle of the Mind

We wonder if the potential of the computer has really been fully understood or realized.

It was not an original thought – like so much of Jobs' talent, it was a masterful repackaging. It was J. C. R. Licklider who opened the door to this pathway of imagining with his seminal paper, _Man-Computer Symbiosis_.

But it was in a 1990 interview, when Steve Jobs talked about computers being a 'bicycle of the mind', that this potential was brought to a larger audience.

A nascent potential sensed in HyperCard, but one that could not escape the bounding of a single computer.

A potential, as we explore our wonder, of Cultivating Connectome inside of us with that outside of us – a computer-enabled Second Self – allowing new creative possibility to emerge.

One that might unleash the Potential of Metathinking where we creatively engage with computers, integrating our three cognitions – our embodied, extended and enacted cognitions.
